Introducing Dolija as our Istrian Heritage Partner
BRUSSELS / VINKURAN – As we prepare for the Pluartis Symposium 2026 in Pula, we are mindful that the “Architecture of the Soul” is deeply connected to the land we inhabit, the light that sustains us, and the traditions we preserve. We are delighted to announce that Dolija, an award-winning producer of premium extra virgin olive oil, has joined us as an official Istrian Heritage Partner.
Founded by the Vareško family, Dolija is a testament to the resilience and beauty of the Istrian landscape and represents a profound synergy between the Istrian soil and the Mediterranean sun. Their headquarters is located in the coastal village of Vinkuran, a site of immense historical weight; it is home to the ancient Cave Romane, the Roman quarry whose stone was used to build the very Arena in Pula where our symposium themes find their inspiration.
While their administrative heart is in Vinkuran, Dolija’s soul lies in their sun-drenched groves near Veliki Vareški. It is here that they cultivate a relationship with the environment that has remained unchanged for millennia. Their name itself serves as a further bridge to the classical world; a “dolium” (plural: dolia) was a massive earthenware vessel used in Ancient Rome to store and transport olive oil.
“At Pluartis, we believe that building an ‘Inner Citadel’ requires an appreciation for roots and excellence,” says Ljupce Stojkovski, Director of Pluartis. “In the work of Marija Vareško and her family, we see a profound dedication to quality that mirrors the philosophical rigour of our symposium. Just as Vinkuran provided the stone for the Arena, it now provides the heritage that enriches our gathering.”
Through this partnership, we are proud to honour local producers who protect the vital connection between the Istrian environment and its history. We look forward to sharing more of their story soon; stay tuned for a full profile on Dolija’s sustainable practices and world-class oils on our dedicated partner page.
