June 2026 Artist of the Month: Tanja Balac

Questioning the Social Tissue of Time

BRUSSELS / SKOPJE – Moving into June 2026, Pluartis is proud to spotlight an artist whose work bridges the visceral textures of classical painting with the haunting, digital frontiers of contemporary video art. Following our month with Tomislav Georgiev, we shift our focus to the profound psychological explorations of Skopje-based artist Tanja Balac.

We are delighted to announce Tanja Balac as our Artist of the Month for June 2026. A prominent figure in the Macedonian art scene and beyond, Balac has spent over three decades investigating the intersections of personal memory and collective social trauma.

Her recent major project, “The Body That Remembers Silence,” which debuted at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) Skopje earlier this year, serves as a perfect introduction to her current inquiry: how does the human body carry invisible experiences of vulnerability and presence?

Throughout June, we will explore Balac’s journey from her early urban landscapes to her award-winning experimental films like NextGeneration, which recently earned the Grand-Prix at the 2024 Winter Salon. Her work challenges the viewer to look beyond the “mirror of life” and engage with the “being en face” – a theme that resonates deeply with our upcoming symposium’s focus on the Architecture of the Soul.
