Looking Beyond the Horizon:
Announcing our 2027 Keynote Speaker, Professor Mark G. Spencer
While preparations are fully underway for the Pluartis Symposium 2026 in Pula, we are already laying the foundational stones for our next intellectual chapter. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Professor Mark G. Spencer has accepted our invitation to serve as the headline keynote speaker for the 2027 edition of the Pluartis Symposium.
An internationally distinguished scholar in the history of ideas, Professor Spencer’s work explores the intersection of history, philosophy, and culture – making him a perfect fit for the Pluartis stage.
About the Speaker
Professor Spencer serves as Professor of History at Brock University in Ontario, Canada, where he has held a Chancellor’s Chair for Research Excellence. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, and Founding Trustee of the Sansom Ideas Foundation. His profound body of research centres on the history of ideas in the eighteenth-century British Atlantic World, particularly the Enlightenments in Britain and America.
With an extensive academic footprint that includes more than 20 volumes and over 130 essays published by premier scholarly presses – such as the American Philosophical Society, Boydell & Brewer, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Harvard, Oxford, and Yale – he brings a world-class standard of intellectual rigour to our global stage.
Upcoming Details
A comprehensive, full-length profile of Professor Spencer will be featured on the Pluartis ecosystem webpage soon, allowing our audience to gain deeper insight into his research record and critical accolades.
Further news regarding the overarching theme of the 2027 symposium and the specific topics of Mark’s keynote addresses will be unveiled in late August. This release is scheduled to align with the closing ceremonies of our 2026 edition, providing a bridge between this summer’s dialogues in the Philosophy Arena and the intellectual horizons of next year.
