Pluartis Launches Collaborator Feature Series with Profile on Žana Marović
BRUSSELS / JOHANNESBURG – Pluartis is pleased to announce the publication of the inaugural feature profile in its editorial series, Celebrating the Ensemble Behind William Kentridge’s Creative Ecosystem, spotlighting video editor and projection designer Žana Marović.
Now live on the platform, the feature examines Marović’s central role in shaping the moving-image language of Kentridge’s studio over the past decade. Working across film, theatre, opera, and gallery installations, she has been instrumental in translating Kentridge’s hand-drawn, process-driven aesthetic into complex, time-based visual environments – from multi-channel works like Refusal of Time to large-scale stage productions.

The profile also explores Marović’s singular trajectory into contemporary art. Originally from Sarajevo, where she completed her medical school before relocating to South Africa during the Balkan War, her background in science continues to inform her editorial practice – combining surgical structural precision with an intuitive mastery of rhythm, perception, and narrative fragmentation.
Describing her creative practice, Marović points out:
“Failure is not treated as a setback but as an essential part of development. Ideas that initially appear less resolved often evolve into the most compelling elements of a project. This approach requires trust in the process – allowing the work to develop, shift direction, and reveal its own internal logic over time.”
In addition to her collaborative work with Kentridge, the feature highlights Marović’s independent artistic practice and her professional standing within the South African Guild of Editors.
The full profile, complete with archival imagery and production stills, is now available to explore here.
